Camarillo, CAGTRAN Incorporated, a high speed optical solutions company, today announced the expansion of its existing high speed driver IC family, with the addition of the GT25-1020MD 28 Gb/s modulator driver IC. The GT25-1020MD was designed primarily for use in transmitter modules for NRZ fiber optic transmission systems such as 40Gb/s DQPSK and 100Gb Ethernet systems.

“This modulator driver IC is in production and has been successfully designed into   laser/driver assemblies, and it directly addresses the lower power consumption and cost targets of EML manufacturers”, stated Dr. Ram Panicker, GTRAN’s High Speed Product Line Manager. “Service providers are constantly seeking ways to reduce power, as system card density increases. Lower power consumption and 100G modulator driver assemblies are beginning to play a much more significant role in achieving this goal.”

The GT25-1020MD driver has a reduced power consumption of 1.3W, using a single -5.2V power supply, and has a 2.8V peak-to-peak output voltage swing. The modulator driver IC has modulation current control and output power down capabilities. Data inputs have on-chip 50Ω terminations and can be driven single-ended or differentially. Input signals can be AC or DC-coupled and are CML level compatible. Modulation current monitors are provided for off-chip power control.

This new IC was designed specifically for use in receiver assemblies intended for 40Gb/s DQPSK and 100 Gb/s Ethernet optical transmission systems.  

“This TIA IC is in production, and directly addresses the demanding performance requirements established by global service providers, and provides a cost effective solution to manufacturers of optical receivers and systems”, commented GTRAN’s President, Dr. Ruai Yu. “Telecom companies are unifying their system architecture requirements, and low cost, high performance receivers are playing a significant role in the high speed networks of tomorrow – the GT25-5025TA TIA IC will aid receiver designers in reaching this goal.”

Current receiver manufacturers who are using the GT25-5025TA have consistently achieved a measured 3 dB bandwidth of 25 GHz, and typical rise/fall times of 12 ps. Power consumption is 0.25W (typical) from a single +3.3V power supply, and this TIA amplifier offers 7kΩ differential transimpedance gain. The TIA has a CML interface compatible output that can be either differential (700mVp-p) or single-ended (350mVp-p).

This new IC was designed for use in receiver assemblies intended for fiber optic systems such as SDH STM-256 and SONET OC-768.

Current receiver manufacturers who are using the GT40-5015TA have consistently achieved a measured sensitivity of -10dBm, and a typical overload of +3.5 dBm. Power consumption is 0.3W typical from a single +3.3V power supply, and offers an internal DC feedback loop that automatically adjusts the decision threshold of the limiting amplifier to compensate for variations in the average input current. The TIA has a CML interface compatible output that can be either differential (700mVp-p) or single-ended (350mVp-p).

Camarillo, CAGTRAN Corporation, a high performance optical and RF connectivity solutions company, today announced the introduction of its second generation of client-side 40 Gbps transponders, and a new line of 40G ICs and components. The new ICs include a 40G transimpedance amplifier (TIA) with integrated limiting and operational amplifiers, as well as a single-chip solution 40G laser/modulator driver IC. IC evaluation samples will be available starting in October 2008. The TIA will be incorporated into GTRAN’s new MSA-compliant 40G receiver, and the laser/modulator driver IC will be incorporated into a small form factor, single-chip laser/modulator GPPO (SSMP) connectorized package. GTRAN’s 40G MSA-compliant receiver and packaged driver will be available for evaluation in Q4 2009.

Camarillo, CAGTRAN, a leading provider of advanced components, transceivers and transponders, announced today the availability of the industry’s smallest 40 gigabit per second (Gb/s) VSR2000 compliant transponders. Designed for high quality, compact size and low cost the transponder is ideally suited to face the challenging market place for a cost-competitive, high quality 40 Gb/s solution that enables the 40G market for immediate growth.

GTRAN’s GT40-1550TRK transponder is the industry’s smallest and most advanced 40 Gb/s, 300 pin MSA compliant module for VSR2000 applications. The transmitter section is based on a cost-effective, 1550 nm electro-absorption modulator with a high-performance laser driver. A set of advanced, mixed signal Mux and Demux ICs translates the OC-768, STM-256, or G.709 compatible data streams to a set of SFI-5 compliant, high-speed differential inputs/outputs, allowing direct connection to a framer or FEC IC on the host board.  A built-in PRBS generator and error detector enhances a system’s testability. The transponder also provides controls and monitors for key transponder operations via the 40G 300-pin MSA pin map and the I2C interface, which is fully compliant to the MSA’s I2C Edition 4 Management Interface. Finally, the GT40-1550TRK is manufactured in a compact 4.5″ x 3.5″ x 0.63″ flat top assembly, same small form factor as current 10 Gb/s 300-pin MSA.

NEC Corp., Fujikura Ltd., and GTRAN have announced the formation of a new multi-source agreement (MSA) for a Compact Small Form-Factor Pluggable (CSFP) transceiver and a Compact Small Form-Factor (CSFF) transceiver to support network systems, especially those deploying single-fiber bidirectional transceivers.

The CSFP MSA defines a transceiver mechanical form-factor with latching mechanism and a host board, SFP-like electrical edge connector, and cage. The CSFF MSA also defines a transceiver mechanical form-factor.  The Dual-Channel CSFP has the same mechanical dimensions as the industry standard SFP transceiver and is compatible with the standard SFP cage. The Single-Channel CSFP and CSFF are half the size of the industry standard SFP and SFF packages. The CSFF design is modular to enable configurations of integrated one-, two- or four-channel modules.  These highly integrated compact transceiver modules will enable network system vendors to increase port density and data throughput, while reducing network equipment cost, the MSA signatories believe.  The CSFP MSA is seeking to add additional member companies in the near future.

The companies involved in this multi-source agreement are exhibiting their Compact SFP and Compact SFF transceiver products at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC 2008) being held in San Diego, California, on February 26, 2008.
